It is one of the three core functions of the Governing Board is to “oversee the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent” – this training course will support you in fulfilling this duty.
Designed and delivered by the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Schools’ Finance Team, this training course will give you an understanding of education funding, school budgets and the statutory responsibilities of the Governing Board when it comes to managing finances. In the current economic climate, it is more important than for all Governors to appreciate the challenges schools have with their funding and spending. Even if you do not sit on your Finance Committee, understanding your school budget will support you in all areas of school improvement and raising standards.
This training course will support your Governing Board with the requirements of the Local Authority’s Governance Audit, as well as with the following areas of the DfE’s Governance Competency Framework:

This training course is provided at no cost to all Governors of maintained schools. Attendance for Governors of Academies is included as part of the Governor Support SLA, or at a cost per delegate (payable by the school), of £60.
